Before designing the first Laguiole knife in the Forge de Laguiole Signature collection, Philippe Starck followed in the footsteps of his father, an aeronautical engineer, in the 1950s. He always enjoyed sawing, cutting, pasting and handling of any objects. Three decades later he founded Starck Products and soon became one of the most famous contemporary French designers world wide. Among the most significant creations of his prolific career were the renovation of President François Mitterrand's private apartments at the Elysée, the Baccarat house in Moscow, and the Forge de Laguiole® manufactory in 1987. Philippe Starck is the first designer to have been asked by Forge de Laguiole® to open its "Laguiole by Designer" chapter.
Before bringing her distinctly feminine and pure touch to a collection of Forge de Laguiole® knives, Andrée Putman pursued a career as a pianist, like her mother, who was a concert performer. Her free-spirit is omnipresent in her work. She founded her own company, Ecart, in 1978 specializing in the decoration and re-editing furniture of the 1930s. Her designs are both strong and straight-forward. Forge de Laguiole® asked her to create a knife: an amazing creation of sobriety inspired by a Laguiole knife from the 1820s.

In the following years, the duo has created some additional designs for our Signature collection.
